New Delhi, 30th March 2011: Gandhian Mr. Garvin Brown lead Mahatma Gandhi peace walk at New Delhi today, organized by JBF (Just Be Friendly) in association with Parijat Academy from Guwahati. Students of JBF Informal Schools walked with Mr. Garvin along with others from different fields.

Garvin from Queensland, Australia wants to bring back Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology among the  children of  the world. He believes that as Gandhi’s ideology is relevant in today’s’ world, world need to understand Gandhian way. Through  this  walk  he  want  to make  aware that  Children Need  education – Education for all.  Garvin  want people  should  do  something   for  the poor  people , to make  gandhian  teaching  in the  schools  and  for the children.

The Mahatma Gandhi peace walk started from Kotla Mubarakpur of New Delhi and come to halt at JBF Informal School, Safdarjung Airport Unit, which is near to the Safdarjung Airport. This was about 3km walk and come across the different leaving conditions of people, from poorest to the posh.

The MGPW was attended by around 95 children from JBF Informal Schools along with representatives from Karbi Students Union Delhi. Dr. Mongve Rongpi of KSUD, Mr. Manoj Das, Vice President of Assam association Delhi, JBF staff, Volunteers, associates and many passersby also walked with Garvin. The children carried placards with Gandhiji’s thoughts and sang Raghupati Raghaba during the walk.

In the middle of the walk, Mr. Garvin inaugurated JBF Women Empowerment Program at Prem Nagar where JBF started its first informal school for the underprivileged children in 2004.

After reaching SA unit, children were very happy to find Mr. S N Subba Rao Director of National Youth Project, Delhi who not only encouraged the children but also sang & played with the children.


The children who participated in the walk were provided meal and gifts were distributed among them. Mr. Uttam Teron who is the founder of Parijat Academy was present in the walk and asked for support from the people to eradicate poverty from the society. Dr. Sashanka Sekhar Dutta, the Chief Functionary of JBF thanked every body for making the event a grand success.
